How to Run a Defender ATP (Windows Security) Scan on a Mac

If you suspect your device may be infected, or if you want to confirm that a previous infection appears to be cleaned, you should have Defender start a scan.

Purpose: This guide explains how to run a Defender ATP scan on a Mac.

Audience: This guide is for users needing to perform security scans on their Mac using Microsoft Defender ATP.

Ensure your Mac is running one of the three most recent major releases of macOS:

• 15.0.1 (Sequoia)
• 14 (Sonoma)
• 13 (Ventura)

Step 1: Starting Scan Request

• Click the shield icon in the top menu and click Open Microsoft Defender ATP.
  

Step 2: Selecting the Scan

• The Microsoft Defender ATP application will open.
  

Step 3: Start a Scan

• Click the Quick Scan button to initiate a quick scan.
   

• Check for Updates: Ensure that your Microsoft Defender for Endpoint application is up to date.
