Overview
The District is increasing efforts in securing IT infrastructure, protecting data, and preventing cyberattacks. When you are signing into an account, service or app managed by School District 35, you will need to prove your identity using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA is using more than one item (or factor) to identify who you are; this is something you know (your password) combined with something you have (an MFA token, an MFA registered computer, or an approved network). Using MFA makes it more difficult for cybercriminals to access data in the case of an account compromise. Accounts can become compromised when a hacker steals credentials to break into a secured account – for example your SD35 account. MFA requires users to provide additional verification of their identity when logging into apps and services under certain conditions. You may already be using MFA when you login to online banking, health services, etc. Most often verification comes in the form of authenticating using a token provided by a mobile app, SMS (texts) or a personal email address to prove that you are the one trying to access the account.
